S13:
Value-Driven Instruction
What is both valued and value-added is critical to guiding action from the school board to the classroom. Systematic, vertically articulated collaboration is critical to the success of top-to-bottom-to-top improvement and change, especially in very large and diverse organizations. “What gets measured gets done” is an extremely powerful tool, and potential threat, to top-to-bottom alignment. This session discusses redirection of a highly diverse, 165,000-student school system through the adoption and implementation of a new governance model and strategic plan. It focuses on the critical impacts that community values, 360-degree collaborative action teams and learning communities, and the explicit articulation of process and outcome measures are having on the success of these efforts.
